As a female in her forties and having 10 years experience in hospital dermatology and dermatalogical surgery, cosmetic dermatology was a natural interest for Dr Burton.
Women are more active in the commercial sphere and often have a high profile. With the increasing age of retirement, men also find that they are competing against younger individuals for promotion.
Appearances can be deceiving but they can also be very important. However irrational it may seem assumptions are often made about individuals knowledge and skill on a quick assessment of age. Therefore cosmetic dermatology is not just about celebrities or vanity.
Dr Burton has been training and working in cosmetic medicine for 6 years. On St Valentines day 2006 Dr Burton established the Belvoir cosmetic studio. On that day she also became a member of the British Association of Cosmetic Doctors (BACD) and is currently a full and active member.
Over the years Dr Burton has become very interested in the standards of the delivery of cosmetic dermatology to the community.
For Dr Burton cosmetic dermatology is medicine and believes that the standards of education and care should be no less than the standards required for therapeutic medicine. To this end, Dr Burton in 2009 became involved as a BACD member, in founding the Post Graduate Diploma/ M.A in Cosmetic Medicine offered by Leicester University, Medical School. Dr Burton authored the module on medical law and ethics, health promotion and skin care. Dr Burton also made significant contributions to the modules on Botulinium toxin and dermal fillers.
